ANDREA SALA | NATIONAL PARK BLANKET | ARTISSIMA
Federica Schiavo Gallery is glad to announce its participation to Artissima with the latest series of drawings by Andrea Sala.
National Park Blanket is realized in graphite, dry pastel and greasy tempera. The artist starts from the study of blankets that belong to the history of different cultures. A good example is the “Hudson’s Bay point blanket” traded by the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) in Canada from 1779 in exchange for beaver pelts. The blankets were bought by Indigenous and settler communities alike to use as bedding, clothing, room dividers and fabric for other items. Blankets played an important role in many Indigenous communities as all-purpose clothes and household items, as well as status symbols.
