IL GIARDINO DELLE RISONANZE
LA PINACOTECA NAZIONALE DI BOLOGNA INCONTRA IL MAMbo
PINACOTECA DI BOLOGNA
JUNE 27 - SEPTEMBER 14, 2025

The National Museums of Bologna, together with MAMbo – the Museum of Modern Art of Bologna present the exhibition Il Giardino delle Risonanze. La Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna incontra il MAMbo.

The exhibition, centered in the Salone degli Incamminati of the Pinacoteca di Bologna, unfolds through a journey featuring more than thirty works from the museum’s storage and the Department of Drawings and Prints—along with a few loans from the Morandi Museum and the Archiginnasio Municipal Library—in dialogue with the works of sixteen artists representing the contemporary Bolognese art scene. At the same time, MAMbo will host a special focus section to highlight the resonances arising from the encounter between the diverse collections of the two museums.
The exhibition space at the Pinacoteca evokes an imaginary cultural garden where the balances and contradictions between humanity and nature are symbolically represented—ancient ties that the processes set in motion by the Industrial Revolution have made us lose sight of, yet which still echo in our language, beginning with the word culture, from the Latin colere, meaning "to cultivate."

With Il Giardino delle Risonanze, interim director of the National Museums of Bologna – Regional Directorate of National Museums of Emilia-Romagna – Costantino D’Orazio, and MAMbo director Lorenzo Balbi, aim to strengthen the dialogue between two cultural institutions that, through the diversity of their collections, play complementary roles. The exhibition also serves as an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of heritage, and to display works that are usually kept in storage for logistical or conservation reasons.
