JAY HEIKES
HUMAN-NATURE
OPENING: SEPTEMBER 17th, 2026 • 7 PM - 9 PM
SEPTEMBER 17th, 2026 - SEPTEMBER 17th, 2027
THE FRANKLIN,CHICAGO, USA
Opening on September 17, 2026 and on view through September 17, 2027 at The Franklin (3522 W Franklin Blvb, Chicago), "Human-Nature" explores the complex and often unequal relationship between humans and the natural world. Bringing together diverse artistic practices, the exhibition considers how people perceive, inhabit, use, and transform their environments, from questions of survival and economic systems to deeper psychological, cultural, and ecological connections.
Through movement, sound, image, sculpture, and explorations of synthetic and organic materials, "Human-Nature" creates an imaginative space in which inner perceptions meet external environments. The works reflect on the ways human activity shapes ecosystems while acknowledging our fundamental dependence on the natural world.
Among the artists participating in the exhibition is Jay Heikes, whose practice examines cycles of evolution and regeneration, stasis and corrosion, entropy and transformation. Working across a wide range of media, Heikes draws on existing ideas, forms, and narratives, continuously borrowing, reconfiguring, and reinterpreting them. His approach to transformation—both within his work and as a condition of the world around us—resonates with the exhibition’s broader exploration of change, interconnectedness, and the shifting boundaries between the human and the natural.
